Scheduled Rest Day

Yesterday Total Calorie Intake: 2,591
(Exercise Calories: 991)
Total Net Calories: 1,600

Today is a scheduled rest day.  No feeling guilty as I slothfully laid in bed until 6:35am this morning.

This week I ran on Monday and Tuesday mornings, and I'm planning to wake up extra early tomorrow morning and hit the treadmill before meeting an old friend at Starbucks at 7am.  (I don't really like Starbucks, but it's close, it's quick and it's open at 7am...).  To finish out the week, I'll likely rest again on Friday and do a long run on Saturday morning.

It's funny to look back at the beginning of the year when I wondered whether my body would be able to take running 4 days a week (which meant I would not have a rest day after each run).  My big concern was whether I would get injured by upping the number of runs from at-most-3 to at-least-4.  Eleven full months later, I can confidently say that running on consecutive days has not caused me any injuries.

I did my push-ups this morning.  Day two of the third column of Week 3:  sets of 20, 25, 15, 15 and 19 (the last set was supposed to be at least 25, but I couldn't muster out more than 19).A total of 94 push-ups in all.  Whoa!  Each set has more push-up than I was able to do "to exhaustion" when I started.  Plus, the second set of 25 is more than I was able to do "to exhaustion" two weeks ago.  Amazing!!

Wow, that is really encouraging. I did my Wk 1, Day 1 today (2nd column) and it was HARD for me. I was sore from the test yesterday which only took about a minute - how pathetic!

I think I have recruited between 3 and 5 friends who might do this with me (virtually). I hope that will help.

I am working off the principle that if I tell several people that I am doing this challenge it will be harder to wuss out.

I agree with the fact that telling people you are doing something gives you accountability. That's one of the "dangers" of me posting these wild ideas to the blog ("I'm going to run a marathon", "I'm going to start counting calories again", "I'm going to do the push-up challenge")...once it is out there, I'm accountable to follow through.

Of course, it's not all bad. Seven weeks ago when I struggled to do 11 push ups - and did 29 push-ups on my first 5-set workout - I could not have imagined a day when I would do 28 push ups in a row and 94 push ups in a 5-set workout!

Good luck with the program. I'm sure in no time you'll be out push-uping me - just like your race PRs are eclipsing mine!!!
